Artist's Comments
Jeez, I started on this weeks ago, colored it that same day, revised it last week, and finished just a few moments ago. Again, lots of experimenting. I really had no idea where I was taking this, I just wanted to use quick strokes for the shading.
I'm a little happy with certain parts of this but I'm actually a little disappointed with myself. I need to work on my technique more in the future. :: Original Sketch - [link] :: :: PS CS4 + INTUOS3 :: :: Brushes - [link] :: :: EDIT 01 :: Didn't realize how silly the close-up looked until Also changed a few layer styles. |

Some say that the state of Texas could accomodate the entire human population...
...5.2 billion different versions of the truth, under one roof...
~Ian Gillan
For the cons, the addition of very gradual shading makes it look like it should appear more 3-dimensional, but the repeat of base colors, as done with the 2D style, flattens parts, but not all, of the picture. This flattening is most prominent in the hair, the face and neck, and the front of the shirt. Perhaps it's just the angle of light, or the way it's shaded in general, that is doing this, but I can see this gradated style working. It's definitely worth trying a few different things with it.
